The Magic Behind the Adventure…
Wednesday, December 17th, 2008 | Blog Post, CupboardCast, Podcast News | 104 Comments
Having now earnt its place in history, lets appriciate the sheer challenge that was making the god damn thing.
Firstly, we had to write it. The idea was initially a simple one, that Bob Hoskins would show them what Christmas was all about etc… and we could tie in a few other funny things of ours into it. (Gladiators, Morrissey, Wally and Grom Grom etc…) Chapter 1 of the story definatly reflects this. It’s more artistic, funny and satirrical. But as we came to the end of writing the first half, we definatly felt the story was lacking anything gripping. There was no tension or drama as such (the closest scene was the one with Marie and O’Connor) and there was only very basic direction to it all. So we included a nice little cliffhanger, something to lead onto much bigger things.
Chapter 2 of it all was always going to be very Doctor Who-ish, it just had to be. The pacing was to be a lot quicker but it would stop for breath every so often so we could add some character in. The story, overall, went from being a surreal jaunt around Christmas to being this acpocolyptic expedition through time battling Morrissey, Hand Puppets and much more. It’s good that we seperated it into two parts or it just wouldn’t have worked otherwise.

Letter Corner…

In the mailbox this weekend…
Dear Thom,
As a representative of your avid listeners I have been selected to put forward some suggestions to enhance the listening experience.
Firstly, the lack of a central topic is very noticeable, as small ambiguous topics often found without stemming from the core subject.
Consequently, we have taken the liberty of creating a list of potential ‘central topics’ you could base your podcast around.
1 Broken Britain
1.1 Hoodies (Crime)
1.2 Obesity
1.3 What is going to happen to the 850 stores where Woolworths once were?
2. Philosophical Questions/ Statements (Specialist Guests)
2.1 What is time?
2.2 Niels Bohr General Discussion
2.3 Three o’clock is always too late or too early for anything you want to do (comment)
3 General Discussions
3.1 Music (Life and Death of Music)
3.2 Food (Why is KFC so bad?) (What’s the ideal type of potato and egg?)
3.3 Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs
To evaluate, we feel this list covers several significant aspects of life, both modern and pre-mod. Let us add, we do not disagree with diversification off the central topic onto less relevant sub topics as long as the decided topic is referred back to throughout.Yours truly, and most sincerely, lots of partial love, Benjamin Alexander Bleasdale, Christopher John Ashall and Matthew Stephen Morris
p.s. Give us a hint on your product ; )
p.p.s JLS for the win!
In response, whilst we think our often rambling style helps create a few laughs and the oppourtunity for anything to arise and be discussed about, we’ve got lots of ideas (as Chris has just said) for set ideas and perhaps themed specials upon our return to normality in January.
We’ll definatly dig out that list of yours for a few ideas though!
And, you’re much to late for Guess the Product, sorry!
